The Microsoft Office Product Updates site hosts free* updates that you can download to increase the security, stability, and performance of your Office products. These updates are part of Microsoft's continued effort to provide the latest product updates to customers.  The following new updates are now available:

 

Word 2002 Security Patch: KB824934 / Word 2000 Security Patch: KB824936
Under certain scenarios it is possible for a Microsoft Word file to be modified in such a way that a macro could run with no warning issued. These updates resolve that vulnerability so that the appropriate macro blocking or warnings are triggered.

 

Office XP Security Patch: KB822036 / Office 2000 Security Patch: KB822035
These updates address a flaw in the way Microsoft Office uses Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to check document properties when opening a maliciously crafted document. This flaw could allow arbitrary code to run when a user opens a specially crafted document from an attacker. These updates address that vulnerability so that files opened using VBA are handled appropriately.

 

Office XP WordPerfect 5.x Converter Security Patch: KB824938 / Office 2000 WordPerfect 5.x Converter Security Patch: KB824993
These updates address a flaw in a converter file used to translate existing documents using WordPerfect file formats to the Microsoft Word file format. This flaw could allow arbitrary code to run when the system uses the converter to open a maliciously crafted document. These updates resolve this vulnerability so that files opened using the converter are handled appropriately.

 

Access 2002 Snapshot Viewer Security Patch: KB826293 / Access 2000 Snapshot Viewer Security Patch: KB826292
These updates address a flaw in the Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer that could allow arbitrary code to run when viewing a maliciously crafted document. These updates resolve the vulnerability so that Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer files are handled appropriately.

 

Visio 2002 Security Patch: KB822212
This update helps prevent unauthorized code from running on your computer through any Microsoft Visio® documents specifically crafted to contain malicious Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) projects.

 

Microsoft Project 2002 Security Patch: KB822211
This update helps prevent unauthorized code from running on your computer through any Microsoft Project documents specifically crafted to contain malicious Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) projects.


Using the automatic detection tool on the Office Product Updates site, you can find out if these updates are suitable for your Office products. Go to the Product Updates site and click Go to get the latest Office updates for your computer.  If these new updates do not appear in the list of updates returned by the automatic detection tool, then your computer does not need them.
